Daniel Hurd, Owner and Certified Inspector of Hurd Inspection Company, on a coastal Florida rooftop with a tablet
From the Owner

A Welcome from Daniel Hurd

I grew up right here in the Navarre and Gulf Breeze area— boating and fishing in our beautiful waterways, and watching summer storms and hurricanes roll in off the Gulf. This stretch of the Panhandle isn’t a territory on a map to me. It’s the sand my family has walked for years, and the neighborhoods where I still run into people I went to school with.

Growing up here also taught me what salt air, humidity, and hurricane season really do to a home. I’ve seen what happens to a roof that was never strapped correctly, a crawl space that stayed damp one season too long, and a seawall nobody looked at until it failed. That local knowledge is exactly what I bring into every inspection.

Hurd Inspection Company was built on a simple promise: you get an honest, thorough look at the home before you close, explained in plain language, with photos and answers — not a stack of jargon. If something concerns me, I’ll tell you. If it doesn’t, I’ll tell you that too.

For Homeowners & Buyers

Tips That Save Gulf Coast Homeowners Money

Everything below comes out of real Panhandle inspections — the defects we photograph week after week from Perdido Key to Panama City. Use them before you list, before you close, and every storm season after.

Chase Water Before It Chases You

On the Gulf Coast, 8 of 10 defects we write up trace back to water. Walk your perimeter after heavy rain and look for soil sloping toward the slab, clogged gutters, and dark streaks under windows.

Know Your Wind Mitigation Credits

Roof deck attachment, secondary water barrier, and hurricane clips can meaningfully lower a Florida premium. Ask for a wind mitigation inspection even if the sale doesn't require one.

Keep Mulch Off the Stucco

Termites and moisture love the same hiding spot. Keep mulch, planters, and irrigation spray at least six inches below the stucco weep screed and off any wood trim.

Test GFCIs Twice a Year

Kitchens, baths, garages, and exteriors should trip and reset on demand. A GFCI that won't trip is one of the cheapest safety fixes in the house — and one of the most common ones we find failed.

Photograph the House Before Storm Season

Date-stamped photos of your roof, soffits, screens, and interior finishes make hurricane claims dramatically smoother. Store them somewhere off-site.

Service HVAC Before June

Panhandle humidity punishes an undersized or dirty system. A spring coil cleaning and drain-line flush prevents the ceiling stains we photograph every summer.

For Realtors

An Inspector Who Keeps Your Closings on Track

Your reputation rides on who you recommend. We write clear, defensible reports and talk your clients through them — so the inspection informs the deal instead of ending it.

Pre-Listing Inspections Protect the Deal

Finding the issues before the buyer's inspector does keeps you in control of the repair conversation — and keeps a clean listing from dying in the 10-day window.

Reports Your Clients Actually Read

Every finding is photographed, plainly written, and separated into safety, repair, and monitor. No 90-page fear document that torpedoes a reasonable transaction.

Next-Business-Day Turnaround

Reports are delivered the next business day, most within hours. Your inspection period stays on schedule and your buyer stays calm.

Coach Repairs, Not Panic

We'll get on the phone with your client to explain what a finding actually means. Informed buyers ask for the right repairs instead of walking away.

What Makes a Coastal Florida Home Different

Salt Air Is a Building Material Test

Within a few miles of the water, fasteners, condenser coils, garage door hardware, and railings corrode years faster than inland. We inspect coastal homes with that clock in mind.

Insurers Ask About Four Systems

Roof, electrical, plumbing, and HVAC age drive Florida insurability. A 4-point inspection documents them so carriers can bind coverage without guesswork.

Panhandle Inventory Moves in Waves

Perdido Key to 30A is seasonal, second-home heavy, and rental-driven. Condition issues that a primary-residence buyer tolerates can sink an investment pro forma.

Licensed, Insured, Standards-Based

Florida home inspectors work to a statutory standard of practice. Ours is backed by a written SOP library and a quality-control review on every report.

Megan Caldwell, Gulf Coast Realty

Navarre Beach · Perdido Key to 30A

"I grew up two streets off Navarre Beach, so I've watched salt air, storm seasons, and stucco tell the truth about a house long before a listing photo does. When I started sending clients to Hurd Inspection Company, the difference showed up at the closing table."

Megan has helped families buy and sell from Perdido Key to 30A for more than a decade, and she partners with us on pre-listing walkthroughs, wind mitigation questions, and repair-request coaching.
